Actually we learn British style English, but sometimes we speak in American English. Bcoz we always see Hollywood movies.

I studied American syllabus,
can't blame me for picking American English over British English xD
But to be frank, even if I didn't do so,
I'd still pick American English.
I personally think British English is harder to understand compare to American English.
For an instant example, " can we have a cup of tea? "
In British slang it would sound more like tay instead of tea.
But I don't hate it.
Practise makes perfection, you just gotta listen to them more! (:
Anyway, American English does confuse people too.
I sometimes take a second to consider did I just hear " I can " or " I can't " because it sound similar,
the way they say it.
No offense to both, cheers!

It takes time to learn the difference between "can" and "can't",
I tended to get confused back then. Watching more American soap opera and listening to pop songs would help.
When they try to stress the intonation, that is "can't". You can sorta hear the "t" sound, like "can-t".

Of course I can differentiate it now.
It would be really stupid if I couldn't since I've been studying their syllabus for so many years.
But for people that aren't used to American slang,
I personally think it is hard to differentiate 'em.
And I am not a television person,
I am more on a book person if I were to compare to television.
But then I am a movie person.
HAHAHA.
