November Games With Gold Announced

Xbox One Games with Gold Doubles in November with Backward Compatibility

Exciting news for Xbox Live Gold members, starting in November all future Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 will be playable on Xbox One, giving Xbox One owners double the free games to play each month. Xbox One Backward Compatibility launches on November 12, play multiplayer with your friends no matter which console they’re on and enjoy Xbox 360 games with the advanced features of your Xbox One, including Game DVR, Screenshots, and in-home streaming to Windows 10.

Xbox One owners can download their free Xbox 360 Games with Gold from Xbox.com/GameswithGold or from their Xbox 360 console. The games will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section of “My games & apps”.

Holiday surprises are coming early in November with a great line up on Xbox One and Xbox 360. Xbox One Gold members get the first-person adventure game Pneuma: Breath of Life and the multiplayer swords-and-silliness action game Knight Squad. On Xbox 360, two fantastic titles, DiRT 3 and Dungeon Siege III, round out the Games with Gold offering – and both will be playable on Xbox One when Backward Compatibility begins rolling out on November 12.

As usual, all games are available only for a limited time, as part of the ongoing Games with Gold program.

• Pneuma: Breath of Life ($19.99) Available from November 1-30 on Xbox One

• Knight Squad ($14.99) Available from November 16-December 15 on Xbox One

• DiRT 3 ($24.99) Available from November 1-15, 2015 on Xbox 360

• Dungeon Siege III ($19.99) Available from November 16-30 on Xbox 360

Pneuma: Breath of Life is an intricately designed adventure/puzzle title that challenges players to delve into the mystery of consciousness and discover the power of one’s own decisions. Beautifully rendered – yet utterly sparse – environments convey a sense of lonely wonderment, while a minimalistic soundtrack helps set the stage for exploration and discovery. This is an utterly solitary game, but one that will leave you thinking, questioning, and wondering long after it’s over.

On the other end of the spectrum, Games with Gold is spotlighting Knight Squad, an action-filled, medieval-themed multiplayer party game with one goal in mind: Kick as much enemy butt as possible. You pick your representative knight, then face off against up to seven other players in a series of top-down, bird’s-eye-view arenas, in several different game modes – including deathmatch and a modified “soccer” mode, where you have to kill the other team to get to their goal. Part Bomberman, part Castle Crashers, Knight Squad is nonstop thrills for a party weekend.

For Xbox 360 (and Xbox One via Backward Compatibility), Games with Gold starts off November with Codemasters’ critically acclaimed DiRT 3. Competing in iconic rally cars across three continents, players can race through snow, rain and dirt and experience dramatic night races with thrilling rally driving or express themselves in the Gymkhana mode, inspired by Ken Block’s incredible freestyle driving event.

Play it on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One. “It’s great that players can now continue their DiRT 3 career via Xbox One Backward Compatibility” said Jonathan Bunney, VP Publishing, Codemasters “DiRT is a much-loved series with thousands of fans worldwide and now Xbox One owners can relive the behind-the-wheel thrills that DiRT 3 delivers”

Finally, also coming to Xbox 360 is the action-role-playing game Dungeon Siege III. Players can choose from one of four characters, each with unique abilities, to embark on an epic adventure through a medieval land filled to the brim with dangerous monsters and fabulous treasures. Up to four characters can join the party at once, and while the A.I. will control these for you, Dungeon Siege III notably features full drop-in, drop-out online co-op play, so a friend can join you for the many twisting and turning levels. And, true to the series’ roots, there are no loading screens – the entire adventure unfolds across a single, seamless world.

So, it’s really time to celebrate in November! Check out the full details on our Games with Gold program, and make sure you get in on the action while you can!

December Games With Gold Announced

Close Out an Awesome Year with December’s Games with Gold

If you’re into spending your holidays on grand adventures without spending a dime of your hard-earned cash, then Games with Gold has your back! In 2015 alone, Xbox Live Gold members have saved over $1000 with Games with Gold on Xbox One and Xbox 360. It’s only getting better in 2016 now that Xbox One members get double the free games every month with Xbox One Backward Compatibility. With Xbox One Backward Compatibility play multiplayer with your friends no matter which console they’re on and enjoy Xbox 360 games with the advanced features of your Xbox One, including Game DVR, Screenshots, and in-home streaming to Windows 10. Xbox One owners can download their free Xbox 360 Games with Gold from Xbox.com/GameswithGold or from their Xbox 360 console.

In December on Xbox One, we kick things off with epic action-role-playing game The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. There’s plenty of gameplay at your fingertips from the get-go here, combining combat, character development, a deep story, and plenty of deadly action in a single package. Then we move on to Thief, the blockbuster reboot of the beloved action-stealth series – and it challenges your mind as much as your nerves as you take on tough traps and merciless guards.

On Xbox 360 and Xbox One with Backward Compatibility, Games with Gold offers up CastleStorm to start the holiday season. A tower defense title with a twist, CastleStorm’s colorful graphics and charming aesthetic will keep any player engaged for hours on end. And when those hours are finished, Xbox 360 gamers still get another free title in Sacred 3, an exciting hack-and-slash medieval fantasy title with four-player cooperative modes both online and off – so you can, you know, chop bad guys up with your friends. And as an extra gift for the holidays Gold members can get Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising free the second half of the month. What’s not to like!

As usual, all games are available only for a limited time, as part of the ongoing Games with Gold program – so don’t let the holiday festivities slow you down. Get playing!

• The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing ($14.99) Available from December 1-31 on Xbox One

• Thief ($29.99) Available from December 16-January 15 on Xbox One

• CastleStorm ($9.99) Available from December 1-15 on Xbox 360

• Sacred 3 ($19.99) Available from December 16-31 on Xbox 360

• Bonus; Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising ($9.99) Available from December 16-31 on Xbox 360

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing might be a mouthful of a title, but it’s actually a very simple game to get into – although one with a ton of layers, viewed from an isometric, top-down perspective. You play the title character, and your job is to kick some monster butt while leveling up your weapons, your abilities, and yourself along the way. If you enjoyed any of the games in the Diablo series, or have a penchant for Eastern European mythology, you’ll definitely dig The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing.

Thief is set in a steampunk/Gothic setting. You are Garrett, the Master Thief. Step into the silent shoes of Garrett, a dark and solitary thief with an unrivalled set of skills. The most challenging heists, the most inaccessible loot, the best kept secrets: nothing is out of your reach. Explore the sick and troubled City, from its shady back alleys to the heights of its rooftops. Sneak through the streets, infiltrate heavily-guarded mansions and lurk in every dark corner… unnoticed and unsanctioned. Choose your approach and use Garrett’s arsenal to take down guards silently with your blackjack, use multiple arrow types to manipulate your environment and the enemies within them or use your newly acquired focus abilities to increase the effectiveness of your thieving skills. What kind of Master Thief will you be?

For Xbox 360, CastleStorm combines the best elements of tower defense titles like Kingdom Rush and artillery attack titles like Angry Birds. It’s a raucous, colorful medieval romp through multiple levels of physics-based destruction. Vikings take on Knights, and you get to choose which side you want to be on; either way, you’ll get to build your own castle, stock it with defenses, and repel invaders. Or, hire and deploy a force of fearsome raider to take the castle down! You’ll need to mix and match the right kinds of fighters to make sure they can counteract any defenses that you may face. It’ll take guts and some cleverness to get through all the many levels of this highly rated title.

Also for Xbox 360, Games with Gold is giving away Sacred 3. Third in the extremely popular brawler/strategy series, Sacred 3 focuses on cooperative gameplay (both local and online play are available), wherein you choose from a series of characters with unique sets of skills and abilities. They must work together to keep from getting overwhelmed by waves of foes, and can combine their skills in unique ways to solve challenges. Written with a comedic twist, Sacred 3 offers as many laughs as it does moments of action – so look forward to thrills and spills as you swash plenty of buckles with this one!

Finally, for Xbox 360, Games with Gold is adding an extra free game for the holidays Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Taking gamers as close to war as they’ll ever want to get, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a heart pounding military simulator delivering a total combat experience. The game challenges players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare on an exotic island location. Players experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a modern conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine, a helicopter pilot, a Special Forces officer or a tank commander. A great way to end the year.

February Games With Gold Announced

Roses are Red, Gamers are Gold: February’s Games with Gold are Here

One of the nice things about Games with Gold is that it gives Xbox gamers a chance to play – totally for free – not only the biggest titles, but also the awesome indie stuff that they might have missed. In February, Xbox Live Gold members get a mix of both. On Xbox One gamers will be able to play the excellent action-RPG/deck builder Hand of Fate and the slick, stealth-action title Styx: Master of Shadows. On Xbox 360, gamers get the brawling action of Sacred Citadel, and the classic third-person shooter Gears of War 2. All four titles are playable on Xbox One thanks to backward compatibility.

As usual, all games are only available for a limited time, as part of the ongoing Games with Gold program, so don’t let the post-holiday malaise slow you down. Get downloading!

• Hand of Fate ($19.99): Available from February 1-29 on Xbox One

• Styx: Master of Shadows ($29.99): Available from February 16-March 15 on Xbox One

• Sacred Citadel ($9.99): Available from February 1-15 on Xbox 360

• Gears of War 2 ($19.99): Available from February 16-29 on Xbox 360

Hand of Fate is, without a doubt, one of the most unique game designs you’ll ever come across. Combining deck-building, tarot cards, choose-your-own-adventure, brawling, and role-playing elements – along with a bizarre and memorable narrator/villain – the game manages to get just about every single one of its elements totally right, and it delivers an absolutely amazing experience. The sense of “just one more card…” permeates every gameplay session, and when you’re in the middle of a Hand of Fate game, you’ll find the hours just slipping away as you improve your character, and go again and again against the dealer.

For a more traditional gameplay experience, you’ve got Styx: Master of Shadows, in which you take on the role of the titular goblin Styx as he attempts to infiltrate the heavily fortified Tower of Akenash and steal the Heart of the World. In so doing, he discovers not only the hidden secrets of magic and the world he’s in, but also his own origins. Styx’s story compelling, and the gameplay keeps you engaged because of the hero’s varied abilities – including traditional stealth, invisibility, and an interesting cloning power that he can use to create a diversion or infiltrate an area with no risk to his own life. Puzzles are emergent in Styx, so no two games will be quite the same. Definitely a challenging and interesting experience for the cerebrally inclined.

For those who are more interested in just busting heads, however, the Xbox 360 offers two awesome Games with Gold titles in February. First off is Sacred Citadel, a brawler set in the medieval world of Sacred, in which swords and sorcery coexist in an ever-shifting landscape. With three-player cooperative combat, plenty of loot to collect, tons of enemies to take down, and four different characters to master, you get plenty of content to keep you hammering away with your friends for hours on end.

Or, if you’re looking for blockbuster action, Games with Gold is also giving you Gears of War 2. Heralded by Videogamer.com as “…arguably the greatest action game ever created” when it was released, the second installment in the landmark third-person shooter series, Gears of War 2 puts you back in the heavily armored shoes of Marcus Fenix as he, Dom Santiago, and the other members of Delta Squad take the fight to the Locust army, battling their way into the depths of Sera to strike at the heart of the enemy. It’s just a few good soldiers against enormous odds – but if you feel like taking a break, you can always go online with Gears of War’s acclaimed cooperative multiplayer mode, Horde, or play a range of intense competitive multiplayer modes against players around the globe.

So, there you have it: February is the perfect time to check out all kinds of good games, completely free thanks to Games with Gold. Check out the full details on our Games with Gold program, and make sure you get in on the action while you can!

Achievement Unlocked: 10 Years – Thank You, Xbox 360

Last November, we celebrated a major milestone, as the Xbox 360 console turned 10 years old.

The Xbox 360 helped redefine an entire generation of gaming at Microsoft. I am incredibly proud of all of the work and dedication that went into development of the Xbox 360 hardware, services and games portfolio over the last decade. And I’m grateful to the fans for their continued passion and support.

Franchises like Gears of War were born on the 360, and established blockbusters like Halo really came into their own during this console generation. Xbox 360 was also the foundation for industry-leading technical innovation like Kinect, and the start of system updates and dashboard refreshes based on fan feedback.

Thanks to the Xbox 360, we evolved Xbox Live from the original Xbox into the thriving online gaming community it is today. And the console became a beloved gaming and entertainment hub with over 78 billion gaming hours played, nearly 486 billion Gamerscore on 27 billion achievements and over 25 billion hours spent in apps over its lifetime.

From the original Zero Hour launch event, to the incredible reaction received last year at E3 when we announced that you could play your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, the soul of Xbox 360 was about putting gamers at the center of every decision we make – and we apply this principle across our business to this day.

Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles. We will continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles, with availability varying by country.

We know that many of you became gamers on Xbox 360 and are still active, so it’s important to us that while the overall Xbox gaming experience will evolve and grow, we will continue to support the platform you love in multiple ways:

• Xbox 360 owners will continue to receive Xbox Live services for their console, such as online multiplayer gaming and parties, access to the apps they use today, and Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.

• Xbox Live servers that support Xbox 360 services will also remain online and active. Our Xbox 360 fans can continue to play their favorite games with the full support of Xbox Live.

• Gamers will also be able to continue to buy over 4,000 Xbox 360 games or Xbox 360 accessories at retail and through our Xbox 360 store online, while supplies last.

• Any Xbox 360 hardware will still be supported at xbox.com/support.

• And Xbox One owners will be able to continue to enjoy available Xbox 360 games through Xbox One Backward Compatibility – at no additional cost.

I want to personally thank the Xbox community – that includes the vast and diverse audience of gamers, developers and publishers who brought so much passion and creativity to the Xbox 360. You are the heart of what we do at Team Xbox, and you have been critical to the success of Xbox 360.

Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be sharing more of our plans for gaming on Xbox One, Windows 10 and beyond. And as always, keep the feedback coming.

Thank you. - Phil Spencer @XboxP3

Then, on June 16, take a wild ride with your friends in The Crew. A revolutionary, action-driving open-world game with a richly detailed recreation of the United States, The Crew offers an online driving experience like none other. Tackle challenges across the map, infiltrate underground racing teams and defeat dangerous criminal groups with Alex Taylor. There is no better time to take a test drive.
