Interior Design is the art or process of designing the interior of a room or building, in such a way that it facilitates the activities to be held in the given space whilst bringing about an aesthetically pleasant environment to work in.
Interior designers as the professionals are responsible for making interior spaces attractive, safe and functional. They use their knowledge of colors, lighting, and materials to decorate, while also following building codes and regulations. Interior designers also require a strong sense of style and creativity when choosing furnishings and fabrics for their clients. They must be able to visualize the way different design components will come together in the end. Being able to effectively communicate with design teams, clients, Architects and Engineers is an important aspect of the job. Strong problem-solving, Project Management skills are also necessary because projects must be kept within the stated budget and timelineInterior designers may work for specialized design services firms, architectural businesses, furniture stores, or directly for the construction industry. However, most of the interior design professionals are self-employed.Therefore, becoming a professional interior designer takes more than creativity. A successful career in the field also requires formal education and training, discipline, determination and strong Business, Marketing and Management skills.
While a formal education is not an absolute must, most employers require their interior design employees to hold at least a recognized Diploma. Therefore, the first step to become an interior designer is to get a quality, practical and up to date, relevant education.
