Former Activision majority owner, Vivendi, buys stake in Ubisoft and Gameloft
动视暴雪前东家威望迪集团入股育碧及Gameloft

　　据华尔街日报消息，动视暴雪的前东家威望迪集团再次通过股份收购的形式重回电子游戏界，这次他们选择的投资对象是同在法国巴黎的育碧和Gameloft。其发言人宣布，在上周威望迪集团以一亿四千万欧元收购了育碧6.6%的股权，同时还以近两千万欧元获得了Gameloft公司6.2%的股票份额。

　　威望迪集团作为法国传媒巨头，之前曾通过收购、合并等方式持有了动视暴雪的大部分股份。但随着2013年其经营状况出现问题后，该集团开始抛售动视暴雪的股票，最后动视暴雪成功脱离威望迪，成为一家独立的游戏制作公司。在该次股权变动完成后，我们所熟悉的腾讯也成了动视暴雪的大股东之一。



Vivendi Buys Back into Videogame Business Via Minority Stakes

Vivendi is re-entering the videogame business, splashing out Euro 160 million ($183 million) to buy stakes in French game publishers Ubisoft Entertainment and Gameloft.

The French media company said late Wednesday that it has spent Euro 140.3 million to buy a 6.6% stake in Ubisoft and another Euro 19.7 million to buy 6.2% of Gameloft.

The purchases are the latest indication of Vivendi Chairman Vincent Bolloré’s strategy after taking control of the group last year. While a wave of asset sales in recent years left Vivendi with a roughly Euro 9 billion war chest, Mr. Bolloré has so far made only relatively small purchases, such as buying French online-video firm Dailymotion or building a minority stake in Italian telecommunications company Telecom Italia.

The purchase of stakes in two videogame companies marks a contrast with Vivendi’s exit two years ago from its controlling stake in U.S.-based videogame giant Activision Blizzard Inc. At the time, Vivendi was under pressure to sell off assets to boost a sagging share price.

Ubisoft is one of the largest videogame makers in the world, known for franchises like Assassin’s Creed. Gameloft is a smaller firm that has seen success by making games for mobile phones. Both companies are based in the Paris area.

Ubisoft Acquires Longtail Halifax

Today, Ubisoft announced it has acquired Longtail Halifax to join its international network of studios. With considerable experience in developing social and casual games, including collaboration with Ubisoft in the past on titles such as Rocksmith and Sports Connection, the studio’s scope will evolve to focus specifically on the development of mobile titles.

“As we continue to grow our mobile business, we are also looking to develop our expertise and expand our network of mobile studios. The team of more than 30 talented people in Halifax brings with it a wealth of experience as well as a clear understanding of Ubisoft’s culture and processes,” said Jean-Michel Detoc, executive director of Ubisoft’s mobile business. “We believe Ubisoft Halifax has the potential to become a AAA mobile studio in this fast-moving and demanding segment.”

The studio is currently working on a number of unannounced mobile titles, and is recruiting for a number of positions to join the team.

“We’re recruiting for 10 positions to grow the team here in Halifax, and are very excited to develop and expand the team’s expertise into the mobile segment,” said Gwenael Heliou, studio manager, Ubisoft Halifax. “Halifax is a vibrant community with a long creative tradition. We are very happy to expand into Atlantic Canada and look forward to developing games that will make Nova Scotia proud”.

Vivendi raises stake in Ubisoft to 10.4 per cent



Vivendi Increases Its Equity Interest in Ubisoft and Gameloft

Vivendi increased its equity stake in Ubisoft and Gameloft, two French companies with internationally-recognized know-how in video games, to respectively 10.39% and 10.20%.

On October 20, 2015, Vivendi held 11.60 million Ubisoft shares and 8.68 million Gameloft shares. These shares were acquired on the market for a total amount of respectively 244 million euros and 34.41 million euros and financed through the Group’s disposable cash.

These investments are part of a strategic vision of operational convergence between Vivendi’s content and platforms on one hand and the Ubisoft and Gameloft productions in video games on the other.

Vivendi is acting alone, is not in concert with a third party and has not concluded a temporary sale agreement regarding the Ubisoft and Gameloft shares or voting rights.

The Group reserves the right to increase its stake in these two companies depending on market conditions and the possibility, in due time, to be represented on their board.
