Funcom Announces New Open-World Survival Game 'Conan Exiles'

"I walk in a land of desperation. A wasteland of the exiled and the outcast. Where the broken strive to build and the weak are crushed while the strong survive."

These are the words of Conan the Barbarian as he strides across a desert wasteland, skulls and bones crushing beneath is sandaled feet, in the brand new cinematic trailer released today announcing Funcom's new game 'Conan Exiles'. Available on PC in Early Access this summer, with a full launch on both PC and console to follow, 'Conan Exiles' challenges players to survive, build and dominate in the brutal world of the greatest fantasy hero of all time: Conan the Barbarian.

"There is no better setting for an open-world survival game than the world of Conan," said Joel Bylos, creative director at Funcom. "Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down. Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever."

'Conan Exiles' is first and foremost a multiplayer game that can be enjoyed on both private and public servers, but it will also feature a single-player mode.

You are an exile, one of thousands cast out to fend for themselves in a barbaric wasteland swept in sandstorms and besieged by enemies on every side. Grow crops or hunt animals for food. Harvest resources to build weapons and tools. Build a shelter to survive. Ride across a vast world and explore alone, or band together with other players to build entire settlements and fortified strongholds. Unleash your fury in savage, fast-paced combat and execute bloody and bone-crushing attacks that will see heads rolling and limbs flying. Fight other players to dominate the exiled lands, and even call upon the wrath of the heavens to aid you by sacrificing enemy players on the alters of the gods.

"What Funcom is doing with 'Conan Exiles' is capturing the essence of Conan and his world," said Fredrik Malmberg, CEO of Conan Properties. Funcom Releases New Video and Screenshots of 'Conan Exiles'

Last month Funcom announced that the company is working on an open-world survival game set in the brutal lands of Conan the Barbarian, and that the game will enter into Early Access on the PC this summer. Today, Funcom is excited to release three new screenshots and a brand new behind-the-scenes video offering a further look into 'Conan Exiles'.

'Conan Exiles' is an open-world survival game set in the brutal lands of Conan the Barbarian, the world's greatest fantasy hero. The game can be played on private and public servers, either in multiplayer or local single-player. You start out as an exile, one of thousands cast out to fend for themselves in a barbaric wasteland, and from there you must hunt for food, grow crops, gather resources, craft tools and weapons, and build a shelter.

You can also band together with other players to build entire settlements and fortified strongholds, and wage war against your enemies as you unleash your fury in savage, fast-paced combat that will see limbs flying and heads rolling. You can even align yourself with the Hyborian gods, building altars to their glory and sacrificing the bloody hearts of enemy players upon them to shift the balance of power in your favor. Players will also have to face the purge: a special event where NPC armies from the neighboring kingdoms sweep in to destroy the progress that the exiles have made. Will you stand together with your fellow players against the purge, or will you use it to your advantage?

Funcom to Release Conan Exile Into Early Access on September 13

Funcom, the independent developer and publisher of computer and console games, today announced that the company’s open-world survival game ‘Conan Exiles’ will enter into Early Access on September 13th, 2016. The company cut the ribbon to the official Steam page today, where Early Access will kick off, with full launch on PC and consoles to follow. The company also released the first ever trailer featuring pre-alpha gameplay footage, finally giving fans a glimpse at how the game looks in motion. The video is available in eight different languages.

“We’re very excited (and a bit nervous) about launching our first Early Access title,” said Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “The team wants to give the players the best possible experience, and while we are used to working on a game for several years before letting players in, this time around we will let players in just nine months after development started! As with any Early Access games, some features and content will be more finalized than others, and players will be able to help us focus on what’s important to them so that we can improve the game and flesh out content and systems before full launch.”

‘Conan Exiles’ will first become available as an Early Access title, meaning certain content and features will be more complete than others when first available. Over time Funcom will work with the community and players and focus on what is important to them when deciding what to improve, what new mechanics and content to add. Players can expect the game to improve significantly over the course of the Early Access period, on everything from graphics to content and systems.

Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game where players are cast into a barbaric wasteland where the weak are crushed and the strong survive. Here they must survive, build, and dominate on their own or in multiplayer on public and private servers. Players will get to explore a vast, seamless world full of dangers and rewards, and they must harvest resources to craft weapons, tools, and even buildings and entire settlements. The game features bloody, visceral combat and will see players clash in epic fights for domination of the barbaric lands. The game is set to enter Early Access on September 13th, 2016, with full launch on PC and consoles to follow.

Funcom Showcases Conan Exiles' New Looks, 360 Degree Screenshots Bring the World of Conan Alive

In less than three months, gamers everywhere will get to follow in the bloodstained footsteps of the world’s greatest fantasy hero as Conan Exiles, Funcom’s upcoming open-world survival game, hacks and slashes its way into Early Access. The development team is currently hard at work bringing the world of Conan to life, and today Funcom released a collection of new screenshots which captures just how far the game has progressed visually the past few months.

Funcom is also thrilled to announce it has teamed up with NVIDIA to implement their cutting-edge Ansel® technology which lets players take breathtaking 360 degree screenshots of the game. These screenshots can even be viewed in VR with devices such as Vive, Oculus Rift, and mobile VR. Funcom has today released several new 360 degree screenshots of Conan Exiles available on the link above.

Funcom today also announced that Conan Exiles will be available in 11 languages when it enters Early Access in January 2017: English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

“We want to make sure the game is available to as many people as possible from the very start of Early Access,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “Releasing a game into Early Access means building a community of players around it that helps us as developers realize the full potential of the game. Open-World Survival Game Conan Exiles Announced for Xbox One, PC Date Set, New Trailer Out

Know o Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of!

Very soon gamers on both PC and Xbox One will get to journey to that very age in Funcom’s upcoming open-world survival game ‘Conan Exiles’. Starting January 31st 2017, players on PC will get to unleash their inner barbarian in Early Access. Soon after, Xbox One players too can jump into the fray as ‘Conan Exiles’ hits the Xbox One Game Preview program in the spring same year. Inspired by the great Robert E. Howard stories, ‘Conan Exiles’ will have players fighting to survive, build, and dominate their enemies in a vast and treacherous open-world in both single- and multiplayer.

To celebrate today’s announcement, Funcom is releasing a brand new trailer showing how the game looks in action. This is the first ‘Conan Exiles’ video released in almost six months and shows the results of the hard work the developers have put into both graphics and gameplay since June.

Watch Player Cities Rise and Fall in Conan Exiles

This month, award-winning development studio Funcom will open the floodgates to an entirely new virtual Conan world. On January 31st, 2017, the open-world survival game ‘Conan Exiles’ will be entering Early Access on the PC, with Xbox One Game Preview to follow later this spring. Here players will have to survive, build, and dominate alone or in multiplayer on public and private servers. In a brand new video released today, developers give a unique glimpse into the building, the crafting, and the many different ways players can destroy their enemies’ settlements in ‘Conan Exiles’.

“They say that home is where your heart is, but in ‘Conan Exiles’ home is where you keep the hearts of your enemies,” says Joel Bylos, Creative Director at Funcom. “Building is a big part of ‘Conan Exiles’ and you will need to build smart and build strong in order to defend yourself from the environment, cannibals, monsters, and of course enemy players. We are working hard to make sure players have powerful tools to build and defend their kingdoms.”

In the new video released today, Joel Bylos and Lead Designer Oscar Lopez Lacalle talk about how players can build on mountainsides using a very flexible building system, and how you and your enemies will be able to summon giant avatars of the gods that can wreak havoc and destruction on anything made by players. They highlight the fact that ‘Conan Exiles’ is anything but an empty sandbox: here players will discover remnants of ancient civilizations, and they must build on top of and in between the dilapidated ruins of vast, forgotten cities.

Funcom is also excited to announce that Joel Bylos and Community Manager Jens Erik Vaaler will host another live gameplay stream on Twitch.tv/Funcom today. At 19:00 CET/1pm EST on Friday January 6th, the duo will once again turn on the camera and this time they will be showing advanced building and crafting gameplay.

Watch Players Become Gods in Conan Exiles

In just 11 days the barbaric open-world sandbox survival game Conan Exiles launches into Early Access on PC. The past two months has seen the Conan Exiles community grow rapidly as Funcom has revealed more and more information about the game including releasing the first two trailers based on the game’s ‘Survive, build, dominate’ tagline. Today Funcom is excited to release the ‘domination’ trailer revealing how players must engage in savage war and brutal combat to dominate the Exiled Lands.

“Take control of a towering god and drive your enemies before you as you crush their homes and conquer their land,” says Joel Bylos, Creative Director at Funcom. “That is the epitome of player vs. player conflict in Conan Exiles. We are giving players a huge, detailed open world where they can go out build a village, a city, or a vast empire in their name. If you are on a PvP multiplayer server, just remember there is always someone willing to take that from you!”

Combat is a key aspect of Conan Exiles and players will engage in brutal battles using anything from swords to warhammers and longbows. A violent fatality system ensures that they can slice each other in half or even see their own head rolling away from them in what is a savage and bloody combat system true to the spirit of the world’s most famous barbarian. To dominate the Exiled Lands, players will also have to build cities and fortresses to claim land, and they must go out and capture thralls to help them defend their settlements or create special weapons and armor. To truly dominate Conan’s world, they must also build altars to their god and bring them sacrifices to appease them. If they earn the blessings of their god, players will ultimately get to summon and take direct control of huge, towering avatars of the gods that can roam the world and crush both bodies and buildings under their weight. There will be several countermeasures against avatars and players can also choose to run and play on servers without avatars if they want to.

Conan Exiles Pricing, Special Edition, Launch Time and Cinematic Trailer Released

Less than one week to go! Funcom’s epic open-world survival sandbox launches into Early Access on PC next week on January 31st. The company revealed today that the game is launching at 6am in the morning European time, which means US West Coast players will get to jump into the Exiled Lands at 9pm on January 30th. To kick off the countdown for the final week, Funcom is today premiering the Official Cinematic Trailer for the game produced by the talented artists at Bläck Studios. The trailer sets the tone for the savage and barbaric open world that players have to survive, build, and dominate in.
