Can't speak well in english is a shame for a Chinese?

for me~~~ both are important... English is needed in workplace~but, i still speak Chinese with my friends..LOL

To me it is not a shame. English is not the mother tongue of mandarin-speakers. But as long as you are able to make people understand what you are trying to tell, it should be good enough.

Certainly not. Imo, the english level of malaysian chinese is much better than the chinese in china. However, fluency in english does give u an advantage esp. in workplace. I wish the day when my english level is as fluent as english native speakers will come true real soon~

not a shame, but if u are in the college or university english is important and in big companies too

It's not a shame.
Yet, we should learn it well when we are young.
As we are getting older, we didn't really have the time to master it.
As a university graduate, I believe employers want us to speak English fluently and use it efficiently.

And if you're looking forward to work in a big company, English is essential.
