There is no disadvantage in learning languages. It's all depends on you to decide whether you want to learn. Yes, English is an international language.

of course English is important! everyone knows it...

but,there's a research show that the chinese population is increasing rapidly...
conclusion is, english and chinese both are important for future, specifically for us,
the chinese... i'm proud to be a chinese!

I think english is complecated~too many words and different meaning~
do u know ,this language is invent by pirate in 1st British establish~
that's why it is very confuse and dun hav clear origin.

I once had the perception that English is a very easy subject and language to master
Because i have scored high marks in school for english since young
But after i started my TESL course, i find English not easy at all =(
We have to learn English grammar in the 'engineering' concept
means that we need to know how to explain the errors people make in English
Even Literature isn't as easy as what i have learnt in Secondary school
So for those who think that English is easy, do more research and you'll know what i mean =(

As i know, almost everyone knows how to speak english and it's adviced not to avoid learning it. As long as one's language is strong, it doesn't matter whether to learn english or not, for an example, if your mandarin communication and writing is superior and you're not interested in english, then you might just go to China for Career because China is advancing in fast track. In my opinion, there is no much hassle in learning english, just read more and speak more, happy learning english

PS: My english is very poor as well, maybe the poorest in here
