The Johor electronics manufacturing facility was established in 1991. In early 2012, a new 580,000 sq ft facility was acquired to support Celestica’s growth in semiconductor and complex mechanical equipment,and test & measurement.  In this world-class facility, there is a 30,000 sq ft Class 10k clean room and a 20,000 sq ft temperature controlled room. To enhance Celestica’s vertical offering for large complex mechanical products, a 15,000 sq ft space for powder coating and welding will be added.  To cater to its growing business, the site continues to maintain its operations in Tampoi, Johor, Malaysia.  The site serves customers from various markets segments - disk drive, enterprise, test and measurement, radio frequency, industrial, semiconductor and healthcare.

2011年3月7日，WD與日立環球儲存科技（HGST）共同宣佈兩公司合併，WD為存續公司[2]。与日后希捷收购三星電子硬盘业务相对应，至此，机械硬盘的主要生产厂商仅剩希捷与西数。这标志着硬盘行业进入寡头时代。

WD在收购了HGST之后成为了全球最大的硬盘生产商。该协议内容是WD支付3.9亿美元现金和25亿股WD的股份，两家公司合并后在2011年的收入总值为150亿美元。
