Gears of War 4 E3 Demo Includes Explosive Combat and a Huge Surprise
In less than four months, a new Gears of War saga will kick off with the launch of Gears of War 4 on Oct. 11. Today, we’re thrilled to return to the Xbox E3 stage with the first look at co-op gameplay in a new section of the campaign. The demo features JD Fenix and his friends Kait and Del as they fight for survival against ferocious new enemies amidst violent wind flares that bring new dynamic gameplay as they rip through the lands of Sera and alter the battlefield.

Limited Edition Gears of War 4 Xbox One S and Controllers Revealed

Official 'Gears of War 4' Xbox One S forged by monster claws and fire
The company's first widely available custom Xbox One S — the console redesign announced at E3 — draws on Gears 4 for inspiration. Its blood-red exterior is scored by faux claw marks, a nod to the upcoming game's new Swarm menace.
The limited edition Gears of War 4 Xbox One S sports a 2TB hard drive and a custom "Crimson Omen" controller that borrows the console's color scheme.
The controller features the same distinctive claw marks as the console along with other nifty flourishes, such as a bloody thumbprint splashed across the D-pad. It will also be sold separately.
The claw marks were added using a laser-etching process that cut into the plastic casing deep enough to ignite a fire. You can see that process in action below.
On the digital goods side, the console bundle includes a download code for Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition (for XB1 and Windows 10), early access to the game on Oct. 7, Gears 4 weapon and character skins, a multiplayer lobby emblem and six "Gear" packs containing in-game items.
Microsoft will also be releasing a second Gears 4-themed controller, also priced at $74.99, as a GameStop and Microsoft Store exclusive. This one features a grey-and-blue color scheme based on the armor worn by protagonist J.D. Fenix, the son longtime Gears hero Marcus Fenix.
Both controllers sport the same enhancements that Microsoft revealed at E3 2016 in June, including a newly textured grip, Bluetooth support and increased wireless range.
The two sold-separately controller packages also include some Gears-specific digital goods to justify the premium $74.99 pricing. You'll get a multiplayer lobby emblem and three "Gear" packs. It's not yet clear what these packs will contain, but it'll likely be cosmetic enhancements for the game's online modes.
Pre-orders for the console bundle are up now and pre-orders for the controllers open on Aug. 1, with the bundle priced at $449.99 and controllers selling individually for $74.99. Orders will start shipping in mid-September.

• “Tomorrow Anya” is named after her famous words following the end of the Locust War (“Tomorrow Marcus. We finally have a tomorrow.”) Her appearance is based on her look in the Gears of War 4 television commercial, “Tomorrow,” where she was introduced as the mother of JD Fenix.
• “Old Man Marcus” features an older Marcus Fenix as unveiled in the E3 2016 media briefing demo. Twenty-five years after the Locust War, Marcus and the COG have long since parted ways. His facial hair has grown long and his COG regulation kit has been replaced with by civilian clothes.
• “Zombie Dom” proves there’s no keeping a good solider down, at least in the form of this character skin created as tribute to Marcus’ dearly departed best friend Dominic Santiago.
The Elite Gear pack also includes the Gold Wave Lancer and Gold Wave Gnasher — updated versions of the gold weapon skins awarded to the series’ most-dedicated day one players.

Starting today on the gamescom show floor, we’re excited to give fans their first opportunity to play Gears of War 4 on Windows 10 PC. Gears of War 4 “Goes Gold” – A New Saga Begins on October 11
Today, Microsoft is pleased to announce that Gears of War 4 has been released to manufacturing ahead of its October 11th worldwide release. This event, also known as “Going Gold,” is a major milestone in development, marking the release of the gold master disc to Xbox replication facilities around the world.
This also marks a major milestone for Xbox as the first-ever Gears of War title available in the Xbox Play Anywhere program, available simultaneously for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. Additionally, Gears of War 4 also supports Cross Play across Xbox One and Windows 10 PC in all of the game’s modes, including Versus, campaign and the all-new Horde 3.0 survival mode.
The event was celebrated today by Microsoft’s Board of Directors, who traveled to the Microsoft Canada Excellence Centre in Vancouver, B.C., to help mark the occasion alongside Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, and Rod Fergusson, head of the Vancouver-based development studio The Coalition, responsible for the development of Gears of War.
“This has been a real homecoming for me,” said Fergusson, who started his career in game development at Xbox before joining Epic Games where he was executive producer on the Gears of War trilogy. “Coming back to Xbox to lead a studio of talented people from around the world, all focused on Gears of War, and doing so in my home country of Canada in one of the best cities in the world for technology and entertainment has been a dream come true.”
“Ten years ago, Gears of War was the killer app that brought millions into the Xbox family,” said Spencer. “It’s combination of innovative technology, unique gameplay, and trademark storytelling changed the game forever.”
“With Gears of War 4, I’m very proud of what the team at The Coalition has achieved. Earlier today, fans got a final preview of the game in the Gears of War 4 Launch Trailer that appeared online ahead of its television debut on the US telecast of Monday Night Football on ESPN (game time 5:30 PST). The trailer is the first Gears launch trailer to feature exclusively in-game footage, and is set to a haunting cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” by American singer-songwriter Lissie.

Coming this November, two of the most popular Gears of War Legacy Maps will make their debut in Gears of War 4 with the addition of Checkout and Drydock for Versus Multiplayer and Horde. Available November 1 for Season Pass holders as part of the early access Developer Playlist*, Checkout and Dry Dock will also be introduced into free public playlists on November 8. The addition of Checkout and Drydock signals the first month of free map updates for Gears of War 4. Owners and fans can look forward to two new maps each month.
