1. Hey! wise up!
放聰明點好嗎?

當別人作了什麼愚蠢的事時, 你可以說, "Don't be stupid" 或是 "Don't be silly." 但是這是非常不禮貌的說法.  比較客氣一點的說法就是, wise up! 它就相當於中文裏的放聰明點. 你也可以用堅酸刻薄的語氣說. Wise up, please. 然後故意把 please 的尾音拉得長長的.
也有人會說, Hey! grow up. 意思就是你長大一點好不好? 例如有人二十歲了卻還不會自己補衣服, 你就可以說 Hey! grow up. 這根 wise up 是不是也差不多呢?

2.Don't push me around.
不要擺佈我.

這個詞很有意思, 把你推來推去, 作擺佈解釋, 如果有人指揮你一下作這個一下作那個, 你就可以用這一句 Hey! Don't push me around. 通常當我講 "Don't push me around." 時, 还有一個字 bossy. Bossy 就是說像是老闆一樣, 喜歡指揮別人.  例如, "You are so bossy. I don't like that."
這句話也可以單講, "Don't push me." 或是 "Don't push me any further." 還有一句根 push 有關的成語, 叫 push the button, 意思就是,  指使, 操縱.  例如,  "I know why you are doing this, someone is pushing your button!"

3.You want to step outside? 或
  You want to take this outside?
你想要外面解決嗎?

外国人跟我們一樣, 要是二個人一言不合吵起來了, 可能就有人要說這一句了.  指的就是要不要出去打架啦. 還有一些我聽過類似的用法, 例如, "Do you want to pick a fight?" 你要挑起爭端嗎? 或是 "This means war."  這就意謂著跟我宣戰.

4.Do you like to go out eating?
想不想出去吃呢?

問外国人出去吃東西怎麼說, 他们会回答說一般出去吃飯, 只說 go to eat , go out eating 或是 eat out 而不會說 go to dinner, go for lunch, 也就是不需特地說中餐或是晚餐.  所以應該要說  I just went out eating, 而不會說 I just went to dinner.  小細節多注意, 你的英文會更棒.

如果要強調是去吃午餐或晚餐的話, 一般就直接說 lunch 或是 dinner. 例如人家問你, "Where did you go?" 你就可以答說 "lunch."

That movie was a turn-off.
那部电影真是让我倒尽胃口.
Turn-off 就是让你倒胃口的东西, 而 turn-on 则是你非常喜欢的东西. 例如你说 She is a turn-off. 就表示说你对她是一点兴趣都没有.   要是 She is a turn-on, 那就表示你对她蛮有兴趣的.  

You scared me!
你吓到我了.
此外, 自己被吓到你也可以说, I am scared 或是 I am frightened.  Scare 跟 frightene 的意思完全相同, 可以随便选一个来用.


The power is off.
The power is gone.
There will be a power outage tomorrow.
停电
这三句都是停电, 但是前二句是比较口语的说法, 而第三句是用在比较正式的场合上, 例如公告说明天要停电, 他们就会用 power outage 这个字, 例如 The will be a power outage from 1-5 pm tomorrow.  
一般我们想到 "电" 都会想到 electricity 这个字, 但事实上 power 才是正确的用法.   例如我说, 请把电关了, 应该是, Please turn off the power.  而不是 turn off the electricity.

The power is back on.
电又回来了.
知道了停电的说法, 那电又来了要怎么说? 很简单, 就是 The power is back. 或是 The power is back on. 大家注意一下为什么会说成 back on 呢? 因为这是指原来开著的, 后来关掉了, 再把它打开的意思. (back on 就是说再回到 on 的状态)

She is well-developed.  
她很丰满.
看到身材很好的女生, 女生之间彼此会说 She is well-developed 或是 well-endowed, 但这算是很文明的讲法, 要是男生看到这种女人, 他们通常不会那么拐弯抹角, 他们会直接说, She has big boobs, She has big breast 或是 She has big jugs. 至于身材不好的呢? 很抱歉, 在英文里好像找不到身材不好这个词耶! 因为她们根本就用不到哇! ^__^  如果真要说的话, 可以说 She is flat-chested.
Well-endowed 或是 well-hung 如果是用来形容男生的话, 例如 He is well-endowed, 则指的也是某个部份很大.  至于是哪个部份呢? 自己想想看吧!

Please turn in the tests.
请把考卷交上来
Turn in 是缴交的意思, 或是用 hand in 也可以.   一般缴作业或是交考卷都可以用 turn in.缴考卷叫 turn in the tests, 那老师发考卷呢? 就叫 return the tests. 例如, "The professor will return the tests today."

Can you be more specific?
能不能再明确一些?
就是希望对方讲得再明确一点.你也可以说 Can you tell me more details?

Cut me some slack!
Give me some slack!
放我一马吧.
Slack 就是松懈的意思, 其实这句话跟 Get off my back 是一模一样的.

Just a spur of the moment.
一时兴起.
例如别人问你, 为什么买这件衣服啊, 你说 Just a spur of the moment, 意思就是说, 我是一时兴起, 可能本来没有要买的, 可是刚好看到蛮不错的, 就买了!
还有一句 It's just on a whim 跟 Just a spur of the moment 差不多, 都是说你突然想到什么事就去做了,就是心血来潮, 也没什么别的理由.

Don't let your father down.
不要让你的父亲失望.
Down 在英文的口语里面解释成心情不好, 心情低落, 或是觉得很失望. Down 也有沮丧的意思在内.  跟 blue (忧郁) 这个字差不多, 所以下次当你看到别人心情不好, 不妨过去问一下, Why are you feeling down?  或是 Why are you feeling blue?
请注意 Let down 和 turn down 虽然听来很类似, 但它们的意思却截然不同.  Let down 是让人家失望的意思, 而 turn down 则是拒绝别人的邀请.

看電影
I've seen every good movie that came out this summer.
我把在這個暑假裏上檔的每一部好電影都看過了。

另外有一個單字 debut 也常在用，意思就是首次出現或是首映 (premiere) 的意思。debut 是名詞，所以我們可以這樣用，"Did you see the debut of the Spiderman?" (你有去看蜘蛛人的首映嗎？) 另外它也常以 make one's debut 的形式出現，例如 "Spiderman made its debut on the internet a day before its official premiere." (蜘蛛人在戲院正式上演的前一天，就先在網路上首映了。)

這部電影是屬於哪一級的？

Do you remember the line by Mel Gibson in Braveheart?
你記得在英雄本色裏梅爾吉勃遜的那一句台詞嗎？
Line 指的就是演員的一句台詞，一句好的台詞常可以讓觀眾津津樂道，回味無窮。例如 Titanic 裏經典之 Rose's line: "You jump, I jump right?" (你跳我也跟著跳對吧？)，我想大家一定都不陌生才對。另外下列的句子也可以常跟老美討論電影的內容時聽到，"Do you remember the line by Mel Gibson in Braveheart?" (你記得在英雄本色裏梅爾吉勃遜的那一句台詞嗎？) "He was like, Freedom!, at the end of the movie." (他在劇終前說了一句好像是 Freedom! 之類的) 你的回答可以像這樣，"Yes, that was a good line." (是的，那是一句非常棒的台詞。)

好用形容詞

That cut looks very gross/nasty. 這個傷口看起來非常地噁心。
「噁心」或是令人覺得「反胃」在英文裏最精準的翻譯就是 gross 或是 nasty。舉凡看到的、吃到的、聞到的甚至是聽到的，讓人有一種噁心的感覺，我們都可以很順理成章地用 gross 和 nasty形容。比方說某人腳上的傷口不但面積很廣，而且被細菌感染導致傷口潰爛，(是不是很噁心呢？) 這時我們就可以說，"That's so gross." "Your cut looks really nasty."又比方說有人剛上完廁所也不洗手就跑去拿東西吃，當場你就可以不客氣地對他說，"You are so gross." 或是 "You are so nasty." (你真噁心。)另外一個跟 gross/nasty 意思一模一樣，但語氣上聽來更為強烈的則是 disgusting。

He is lame. 他很無趣。
Lame 大概是用得最普遍的一個用來形容「無趣」的形容詞吧。例如我們在中文裏說這個笑話很「冷」，在英文就是翻成，"The joke is so lame." 但是如果你想試著解釋為什麼我們說，"The joke is so cold." 則大可不必，因為只怕你還沒解釋完，早就覺得很「冷」了吧！Lame 不但可以拿來形容笑話，也可以用來形容人。例如，"He is so lame." 意思就是 "He is no fun." 的意思。

Your jeans are so filthy. 你的牛仔褲真髒。
Filthy 和 dirty 都是骯髒的意思。除了 filthy 和 dirty 之外，sticky 和 greasy 這兩個字也常用來形容骯髒，但 sticky 是特別指「黏黏的」，而 greasy 則是指「油膩膩的」。


It's very creepy to walk alone after 9pm.晚上九點以後獨自走在街上相當令人感到害怕。
Creepy 和 scary 這兩個形容詞都是用來形容令人「害怕」的感覺。但這兩者其實有著小小的差異。Creepy 的話是指「心裏毛毛的」那種感覺，而 scary 則是真的令人感到害怕，所以在程度上來說 scary 比 creepy 還要來得恐怖些。比方說像是看恐怖電影，也許你可以說 "It's creepy." 和 "It's scary." 都可以，但是如果像是去從事高空彈跳 (bungee jump)，我想對大部份的人來說都是 scary 而不只是 creepy 了！

The house is spooky. 這間房子另人覺得毛骨悚然。
Spooky 跟 creepy 和 scary 同樣有著「另人害怕」的意思，但是 spooky 或是 spooked (以人當主詞時) 通常是跟鬼怪或是幽靈之類的那種害怕。例如把你一個人留在大房子裏讓你覺得毛骨悚然，你就可以說，"I was spooked when I was left in a big house."
講到這裏，就不能不順便提一下英文裏「鬼屋」的講法，可不是 ghost house 喔！比較正確的講法應讓是 haunted house，haunted 這個字本身就有被不乾淨的東西所佔據 (haunted) 的意思，所以 haunted house 就有了鬼屋的意思。常常可以見到 spooky 和 haunted 這兩個字連用，因為它們都是和「鬼」有關的字。例如，"It's a spooky experience to visit the haunted house." (當我在鬼屋裏時讓我覺得毛骨悚然。)

一看到吃，人们自然而然想到的英语对等词就是eat，但是，这个简单的吃的意义决不是一个"eat"就能完全表达的。除了eat之外，还应该根据不同的情景和意义给予恰当的表达。常见的表达法如下：　   


1．译作take或have。　   
The　patient　can't　take　food　yet．病人还不能吃饭。　   
We　are　having　dinner　now．我们现在正在吃晚饭。　   

2．译作dine，feed，taste，touch，graze等词。  
She　invites　me　to　dine　with　her　tomorrow．　   
她邀请我明天和她一起吃饭。　   
Have　you　fed　yet？你吃饭了吗？　   
He　hasn't　touched　／tasted　food　for　two　days．他两天没吃东西了。　   
The　horses　were　grazing　quietly　in　the　field．　   
马群正在田野里静静地吃草。

3．译作like，love，prefer，enjoy，care　for，　be　fond　of等。　   
Would　you　like　`ice-cream`？你想吃冰淇淋吗？　   
She　loves　bananas．她爱吃香蕉。　   
Southerners　prefer　rice　while　northerners　prefer　noodles． 南方人喜欢吃米饭而北方人喜欢吃面条。　   
He　is　enjoying　his　dinner．他正津津有味地吃晚饭。　   
Tom　doesn't　care　for　meat．汤姆不怎么喜欢吃肉。　   
Ants　are　fond　of　sweet　food．蚂蚁喜欢吃甜食。　   

4．译作feed　on，live　on等短语动词。
Cattle　feed　chiefly主要地　on　grass．牛主要靠吃草为生。　   
Monkeys　live　on　wild　fruit．猴子以吃野果为生。　

5．译作某些介词短语。　   
It's　time　for　lunch．该吃午饭了。　   
Please　sit　down　at　table．请坐下吃饭吧。　

6．某些引申意义的"吃"，可根据具体意义用适当的词或词组表示。   
You'd　better　not　ask　for　trouble．你最好不要自讨苦吃。
He's　always　the　first　to　bear　hardships．　   
他总是吃苦在前。　   
The　enemy　troops　suffered　one　defeat　after　another．  
敌军连吃败仗。　   
This　is　a　hard　way　to　earn　a　living．这碗饭不容易吃。

其他"吃"　   的用法。
A　wise　man　does　not　fight　when　the　odds　are　againsthim．好汉不吃眼前亏。
Such　a　style　is　unpopular　anywhere．这种作风到哪儿都吃不开。
Mechanical　copying　of　anything　foreign　would　be　disastrous．机械地照外国的东西要吃大亏的。　   
It　may　be　too　much　for　you　to　walk　such　a　long　way．  走这么长的路恐怕你吃不消。　   
That's　a　thankless　task．那是吃力不讨好的事。　   
She　was　so　jealous　that　she　wouldn't　let　her　husbanddance　with　anyone　else．　 她好吃醋，总不让丈夫跟其他人跳舞。
